Commissioned to create a nature trail in order to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, I used designs which had been created by the children which I then carved into wood plinths commemorating the 6 decades of Her Majesty's reign. Also incorporated into this was a Where's Wally theme, although instead of Wally it was a mini ER.
This carving of a butterfly was created for a very special little girl and is placed in the happy garden for all the children to see.
These boots were carved for the Scouts Cheshire hike as their trophies.
33 carvings were carved in relief in a trail around the Reserve, some of them being insects and creatures native to Low Hall
This is an ancient semi natural wooded valley through which runs Borsdane Brook . It is believed to have been continuous woodland since before 1600. It has been owned by various landed families until the 1930,s when it came under he control of 3 local councils.
In 1974 it became part of Wigan council and is managed by them, with lots of support from local volunteers, BORSDANE FRIENDS GROUP. In 1986 it became the borough's first local nature reserve. Over a mile long with an abundance of different trees shrubs and nature.
I was asked to create a trail with a woodland theme. all the carvings are done in bas relief so it does not damage the trees and has given people all ages lots of enjoyment.
I was commisioned to carve two Benches and a huge 12 ft Owl in one part of the garden . In another more hidden away part of the garden I have carved two Hares along with a fairy door.
These are beautful gardens well worth a visit.
I really enjoyed doing this nature trail, again in Bas relief as not to damage the trees however harder to vandalise or steal. The whole group of people I worked with were so passionate about creating this.
We spent time in St Peters a local primary school working with the children getting their input on the old folklore.
All the class visited the area with us then did drawings for me to take inspiration from.
It was said that if you touched a Silverbirch tree you were taken back to the Ice age as the ice melts the wolves appear. To be set free you have to get the magical key from a secret cave. Your reward was at any point you had the power to turn into a wolf.
